Bill Clinton was impeached because of two charges: perjury and obstruction of justice. Clinton was charged with perjury because he lied about the nature of his relationship with his secretary, Monica Lewinsky.
Lewinsky became an unpaid intern in June 1995 until December of 1995 when she was on the payroll as a mail carrier and would make frequent visits to the Oval Office. When Lewinsky was moved to the Pentagon her coworker, Linda Tripp, would record Lewinsky while she talked about her affair with Clinton. While Lewinsky was working at the Pentagon, Paula Jones was suing the president on sexual harassment charges. Lewinsky met with Clinton and told her to be vague as possible while in court and denies ever having a relationship with the president. When Clinton was being questioned he also denied ever having a relationship with Lewinsky and Lewinsky's coworker gave the tapes of Monica talking about the affair to her lawyer and Clinton is later charged with perjury. He is also charged with obstruction of justice because he asked Lewinsky to lie in court.
