The NAFTA or North American Free Trade Agreement was an agreement signed on January 1, 1994 between the Untied States, Canada, and Mexico creating the world's largest free trade area. The NAFTA was signed by United States President Bill Clinton, Mexican President Carlos Salinas, and Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien. This eliminated most tariffs on products traded among these countries. This agreement also took away import tariffs on agriculture and also reduced tariffs on textiles and on automobiles. The downside to this is the loss of jobs; twenty years later this has resulted in a loss of one million United States jobs.
